What is the starting point when doing a horizontal side panel foil and a top foil (highlighting hair)?

Thanks! What is the starting point when doing a horizontal side panel foil and a top foil (highlighting hair)?
I think I understand....do the sides first, always the very top ';mohawk'; panel last. so if the sides process faster (cuz they were put on first) you can take them out a few mins before you rinse the very top panel out. (I go from the top down on the sides-I don't think that part matters though, whichever is comfy for you)

I hope thats what you meant- :)What is the starting point when doing a horizontal side panel foil and a top foil (highlighting hair)?
uh what i would do is not do it at home. because my mom did it once like that and her highlights turned out orange. so i would just go to the butition and get it done.

Cap for highlighting hair that fits?

i am highlighting my friends hair but the cap is too small for her head. Is there anything else i can use that will work as good?Cap for highlighting hair that fits?
Try Sally Beauty Supply store to see if you can get something bigger there. Also, maybe you could use a swimming cap, you would need to out holes in it first though. As your last resort, you may try to just do the highlights on the foil.Cap for highlighting hair that fits?
cap come pretty much the same size but some beauthy supply stores might have to order aa bigger size for u.
I think Italian cap is the best for a cutest girl with bubbly hair style it makes her erotic...............:)
You should have your friend go to a professional instead. Unless she doesn't mind you messing up her hair with bleach!

Besided, my hairstylist has never used a cap, that is so 90's!

Highlighting hair blonde and putting red streaks in, which do I do first? PLEASE HELP!!?

the girl at Sally's told me to put the red in first, but im afraid the bleach would make it pink!

Im using a high lift developer with Kaleidoscope violet bleach...and wella red permanent color.

I have a chunking cap for the red and a regular highlighting cap for the blond.

what do you suggest? Thanks for your help!!!!Highlighting hair blonde and putting red streaks in, which do I do first? PLEASE HELP!!?
Why would you do that? Is Ronald McDonald's stylist busy?Highlighting hair blonde and putting red streaks in, which do I do first? PLEASE HELP!!?

That sallys lady needs to get FIRED.

Your hair needs to be bleached first hun.

Do you have a creme developer for the bleach powder?

Wow that lady is REALLY stupid..
DONT DYE IT IN THE FIRST PLACE

Highlighting hair with lemon juice?

My friend told me about this but I'm not sure if it will damage my hair. Which is better, lemon juice, or bleach?Highlighting hair with lemon juice?
Lemon juice would take a lot of time, Sun-in is a peroxide spray its not the greatest for your hair but has conditioners in it and it lightens quickly and easily, or there's professional highlights, which use bleach but don't tend to damage your hair so much, I got a perm on highlighted hair and you can't have too much damage to do a perm, I also used sun-in and they managed to perm it still.Highlighting hair with lemon juice?
It is drying to your hair. For best results, you have to mix it with a little water and sit out in the sun. Every time your hair dries, you'll need to re-wet it again with the lemon solution.

I'd go with the bleach. After the first time, just make sure you only put bleach on the dark roots, and not all over your hair each time. The only time you put it all over your hair again is if the color has faded, and then you still do the roots first and pull the color down to the ends only for the last 5-10 minutes.
lemon juice!! mother nature knows best, seriously. bleach will damage hair wayyyyyy to much. what u do it get PURE LEMON JUICE (careful not to get it in any cuts!!) and put it in your hair and then sit in the sun for a while. the link has more info
i have never heard of lemon juice.

All i know is from other people have said if you put bleach in your hair it damages it and can fall out.

Which doesnt sound like fun!

I wouldnt trust lemon juice because i would think it would turn my hair orange :/
Bleach is a major no. it can totally kill your hair.

I've heard that lemon juice works if you sit in the sun while it's in your hair. I'm not positive how well it works though! It's definitely the healthier solution!

Hope i helped :]
bleach is SO unhealthy

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?鈥?/a>
not bleach! try lemon juice mixed with conditioner and leave it in for a really long time. i saw the hair dresser, kim vo, talking about it
Lemon juice does more damage then it does lighten it. It barely lightens, even blonde hair.
No! That's probably one of the worst things you can do for your hair, just go get it highlighted normally.
lemon juice.

  • How long do you have to wait after coloring & highlighting hair to get a perm?

3 to 4 weeks if you get it too quickly after color and highlighting it makes your hair brittle and dried out.How long do you have to wait after coloring %26amp; highlighting hair to get a perm?
An hour. if you have it done any sooner, you may get cramps. How long do you have to wait after coloring %26amp; highlighting hair to get a perm?
You should do it the other way around. Get a perm then do the colour the next week.
Year, sometimes more. If you do it too soon, curlers full of hair will fall-out. It happened to me, and I waited a year after. Its best if you just let that thought go. Try sponge curlers untill its safe.
im not to sure u should ask ur hair dresser
You should wait about four weeks to give the color time to set because the chemical reaction between color and perm can do some major damage to your hair
you have to wait at least 2 weeks so your hair wont get thet damage

Yes, it would be fine, i think.

Has anyone ever used Prism Lites for highlighting hair?

The girl at Sally's told me to use 40% cream developer, the package says to use 20%.Has anyone ever used Prism Lites for highlighting hair?
never put 40 on your hair it can cause chemical burns to your head. the workers at sallys are not professional stylists. prism lites with 20 pulled thru a cap left until inside of banana color will let a nice light blonde color.

    Highlighting hair with foils?

Can you use tint instead of powder bleach to do highlights using foils for less damage?Highlighting hair with foils?
If you mean blonde dye then no. It will fade and be more damaging in the long run than the bleach is. Thats because you have to keep redying the parts you already dyed to keep the color. If you get a good bleach and do it properly your hair won't get much damage at all. I recommend the loreal paris champagne. its this one.

This is the best one I have ever used. You have to make sure to use the toner as well. Then get shampoo for highlighted hair. I recommend shimmer lights shampoo and whatever conditioner you want to use.

  • Question about highlighting hair?

Is it ok to get hair highlighted every month, or every 6 weeks?

Should hair be trimmed after every time it is processed?Question about highlighting hair?
Most women go for a ';Root touch-up'; every 6 weeks to keep their hair looking natural and glossy, and it's advised to have it trimmed that often to keep it looking neat and trim.

Depending on your hair type, I couldn't advice on what's the best product but good luck anywho.Question about highlighting hair?
nothing is okay for your hair, things like this would depend on the thickness of your natural hair. Try it, if you see it becoming unneccissarily unhealthy than discontinue.

Highlighting Hair- What color-guard shampoo/conditioner should i use?

    What brand-name do you suggest?

How much have you paid for it?

    Thanx, Beth

NOTE: i have reposted this because of low reponse to the originalHighlighting Hair- What color-guard shampoo/conditioner should i use?
I love the John Freida line, you can get it at Wal-mart,for about 5.00 a bottle, also my mom swears by bio lioge which you can get at most hair salons, about 12.00 each for the small bottle. I personally think john freida works better. Good Luck

    Highlighting hair extensions?

I just put glued in hair extensions in and i want to put blonde highlights in. They are 100% human hair, will they dye the same color as my natural hair? and if I cant use the cap, whats another method of putting a few subtle blonde haighlights in?Highlighting hair extensions?
Everyone's hair takes bleach/dye differently. Because it's not your real hair, it won't take dye/bleach the same way your hair will. Dying them could damage them. Most extension companies do not recommend it.

By the way, Human hair extensions are dyed before they are packaged.Highlighting hair extensions?
I really wont recommend you dont colour the hair, instead have lighter extensions put in to create the high light effect.

Reasons for this is the hair will have been heavly treated already and may make it tangle and brittle. Also if you get any bleach near the glue it will denature it and cause the bonds to fail!
You should have gotten extensions that were highlited like you wanted. You shouldn't highlite extensions after they are in.

    Highlighting hair in early pregnancy?

I remember when I was pregnant with my daughter, that I highlighted my hair, I just don't remember if I did it in my first trimester or not.

Did any of you highlight your hair? When did you do it?

My doctor said it is fine, because the dye doesn't sit on your scalp, so it really doesn't get absorbed into the body.Highlighting hair in early pregnancy?
I am a hairdresser and pregnant with my first. I highlighted my hair during my first trimester. Also in my second. I do all my clients while they are pregnant unless they decide otherwise. My doctor told me it's safe to do color, but always use gloves. Occasionally it gets on my arms or hands, so I try to wash it off as soon as I see it. If it is so bad for pregnant women to get colored then why are we not banned from working while pregnant? You are fine.. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.Highlighting hair in early pregnancy?
You can do it. All the dyes are safe now. A few years ago they were using different stuff. All I can say is watch out because all those hormones can make the dye do funny thing to your hair every now and then. Mine came out all splotchy and weird with my first.
You can highlight your hair. It's an old myth that you aren't supposed to dye your hair. You shouldn't have a problem with it.
Coloring your hair is fine as long as you have good ventilation. Open a window and have a fan blowing if you are worried.
i waited till i was out of my 1st trimester!!! if i were you, i would!!! good luck.
if you are unsure just wait. its better to be safe then sorry :]

Is frosting and highlighting hair the same?

does black hair with strawberry blond highlights/frost sound good or bad?Is frosting and highlighting hair the same?
thats way too much change, highlight are more mild than frosting, if you hair is black go for a dark auburn highlightIs frosting and highlighting hair the same?
frosting is for guys, where its just the ends of their hair coloured. highlights are foils. if you are doing the foils yourself, my guess is it wont be strawberry blonde, but rather go orange. so i'd suggest you go to a professional. plus, they are two very opposite colours. i would suggest having lighter foils like that, would look better if they were under your hair, so the blonde isnt on top of your head, in your face. it will just shimmer through all the ends.

Frosting was always considered a very, very light (almost white) blonde.

When you call for an appt. use the term highlights, and you can get a foil process done or through a cap. Cosmetologist =o)
They are the same thing. Frosting is what they called it 30 years ago. That sounds like a good color combo.

Highlighting hair with SUN ( not the sun the product)?

I've heard that is good for highlighting blonde hair, but I was wondering, will it really highlight or will it completely change the color of my hair?Highlighting hair with SUN ( not the sun the product)?
Well there is a product called sun in it is all natural. It will give different colored highlights depending on your hair.U can get this at walmart, target, walgreen, and drug store. It is easy spray it in ur hair go out in the sun and ur hair will stay that way for abou 3 monthsHighlighting hair with SUN ( not the sun the product)?
Go to your local wal-mart, or whatever store sells hair products. Look for Sun In. You spray where you want it in your hair, and it will give you blonde highlights. You can also use lemon or even vinigar. just put it where you want it and it will blondelight your hair(:
It's good for blondes and it will change the color of your hair, it will make it lighter. And yes, sun-in is bad and it'll hurt your hair.

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>

Okay lets talk about lemon juice highlighting hair?

How does this work? Is it mixed with water? Can i spray my hair with this everyday before i sit in the sun for a natural look? I have medium golden brown hair...what type of highlights can i expect? I understand i won't become blond but will i have golden highlights? How long does this take to work? My hair is dyed how will this affect the process? The hair underneath is a an orange light brown (soap cap in the past color correction)...so puhlease answer my questions cause i would like a few natural highlights..thank uuuuu :)Okay lets talk about lemon juice highlighting hair?
this works for some people, but not all. it has a lot to do with the texture, natural color and quality of your hair. if its been dyed, it may alter your results form the lemon juice. in a spritz bottle, put staright lemon juice (bottlled juice works- doesnt have to be fresh squeezed) into it and mist your hair in sections. part the hair and mist the underside and on top, repeating in each section. lay out and position the hair so its as exposed as possible to the sun. this may take a couple of time to see results- if any. it doesnt work for everyone. be prepared for the hair to feel really dry and brittle.. a good deep conditioning should take care of that.Okay lets talk about lemon juice highlighting hair?
I would worry about the acidity in lemon juice destroying your highlighted hair- or making it brassy looking. If you want to go lighter I would schedule to see a stylist to add your desired color. I remember as a teen doing this and looked brassy all over.- copper tones.
u just spray it on ur hair b4 u go out in the sun. u dont have to add water, but u can if u wanna dilute it a little. i have light brown hair and it works for me. now, i have blonde- gold highlights
your hair will end up orange, my husband did it and that's what happened.

You can put it on a piece of hair and use the hair dryer on it til the color changes to get an idea of what will happen.

You can also use Sun-in, they are some that have lemon juice in it.
Yes it dose work but as for your hair beening dyed I don't know if it will.
It dosen't really work, you would be better off using a product like super sun-in. Spray it in your hair and go out in the sun or use a hair dryer and you will get the effects you are looking for I think.

Highlighting hair, I have an idea but idk if it will work..?

Well you know the highlighting kits that have that brush sort of thing.. Well I was wondering.. Would it be possiable to take like a wide tooth comb and dip the ends in hair dye and brush it threw your hair? And iff not well then with the actully brush type thing.. How good do the results come out?Highlighting hair, I have an idea but idk if it will work..?
No! That would look terrible! You don't want to mess with bleach! Its permanent.

    Interesting ways of highlighting hair?

I've heard of people adding ';coontails';(racoon stripes) in their hair and sometimes leopard print.

I'm useing Manic Panic Turquoise because I finally got my hair light blonde.Interesting ways of highlighting hair?
You can do stripes, zig zags. You can do multiple pieces. Like, take a side thin piece of hair, and seperate it into small pieces, then die them separately so they look pieces and the blonde will show through. Do the bottom half turquoise, that might look awesome if you do it right.

hi so i want to highlight my hair and i want to get like a carmel colour highlight (but i wont go to a professional) i have originally dark brown hair, almost black and it doesn't take colour very well. but in june i dyed my hair a dark golden blonde colour and it came out brown but more with a reddish hue. if i highlight my hair with a carmel colour will my hair come out like on the box or will it come out a different colour because its been coloured before? thanks.Hello question about highlighting hair at home but am concerned because of pervious colouring HELP PLZ
match it up with whatever your hair looks like now with the original color on the highlight box and that is what it will look like. just be careful because if you over process your hair you will get a lot of breakage and dryness.Hello question about highlighting hair at home but am concerned because of pervious colouring HELP PLZ
Definetly another color, especially since you have color treated hair. If you have colored your hair then do not color it at home unless doing the same color or your hair has grown out. You will not be happy with the results. Also, if your hair has regrowth (roots are different color than dyed part of hair) than you will have different shades on your regrowth.
om my gosh i have the same exact hair color and i was also thinking about dying my hair a carmel color too!!!!! freaky but anyways, i'm pretty sure it will come out that color on the box.. but if you want to make surethen go to a profeessional to get it perfect but there offly expensive there. well hope i helped and it will look really look cute on you!!!!!!

Whats the best product to use for highlighting hair?

i'm doing it myself at home. my hair is already dark blonde, i just want some lighter highlights in itWhats the best product to use for highlighting hair?
Well it depends on what your budget is.

If you can afford the expensive stuff you should get pureology in the purple bottle. they mostly sell these at solons.

If you are on a budget get the shampoo/ conditioner for blonds. use that maybe 2 times a week then get viv for colored haired.

One more thing don't wash your hair everyday. especially when using store bought product. if you can wash it 4 xs a week

If you want the blond to really stand out and loose any yellow color it has, go to a sallys beuty store if you have one near you and get this blond shampoo toner in a purpl bottle, it will take out any dinge or yellow in your hair and make the highlights stand out more.Whats the best product to use for highlighting hair?
I agree with Mrs. Smith. When I had highlights, I bought that ';purple'; shampoo from Sallys, it was about $15.00 but well worth it. It does a great job to pull highlights out in your hair and will get rid of any copper/yellow tones. Any salon I have been to uses it and one recommended it to me.

yeah its bleaching but if u grew it out it should be ok. but it depends on if u got blode highlites. tht would be bleaching but if u got like black lowlights then no.
sun in is like bleaching but alot better for your hair

    Highlighting is not! bleaching

    highlighting it like streaks
yes, sun in bleaches your hair.

if you have dark brown hair and you get light brown high lights

thats not bleaching thats dyeing it.
highlighting is not the same as bleaching b/c you are adding coloour not taking it away
I would say it`s a milder form of bleaching, sun- in.

    Lemon juice highlighting hair?

I have black hair and i was planning to comb through some lemon juice in my hair. I was wondering, how long do i have to sit under the sun for the highlights to reach a light brown but not blonde. i dont want blonde streaks, so i want to catch the right amount of time to get a light brunette/ golden brown look.

    thx!Lemon juice highlighting hair?
I've used lemon juice before. Heres what you do:

    Wet your hair.

Put lemon juice all over and comb through.

Sit in the direct sunlight until your hair is dry, and your hair should be lighter!Lemon juice highlighting hair?
i dont think you can die your hair brown with lemon juice. i jusat makes your hair streakier. (and cute!) you have to sit in the sun for about a full day. Do not expect it to change over a short amount of time. You can also use a product called sun in which does the same job as lemon juice.

AND Which would last long? Say I highlight my hair to a really light brown, or I dye my hair to a really light brown, which would last longer?Which is healthier than the other? Dying hair or highlighting hair?
Are they not made of the same or similar chemicals??? sh**!!...Anyways, you could dye your hair brown and then highlight it an even lighter brown and see which product fades first!Which is healthier than the other? Dying hair or highlighting hair?
Neither are healthy for your hair - both are damaging. It definitely depends on what kind of look you're wanting to achieve, you could go for all over highlights / a full head of highlights if you want some dimension and not all over the exact same colour. With highlights, it'll also last longer or you can go longer until your next appointment as it'll look more natural when your hair is growing back and roots won't be as big of a problem. With dying your hair, you'll get a colour without dimension and it'll be an all over even shade / the same colour. The roots will be more noticeable when growing back this way, but if you want that all over look then this will be your best option.

    Hope this helps :)
When you lighten or bleach your hair, it is kind of sucking the pigment out of your hair, therefore weakening it. Highlights don't ';wash out';, because what they are doing in the first place is ';washing'; the color out.

Coloring your hair adds pigment, and will wash out at least a little. It is the healthier choice.

However, to go from dark to light, whatever you use will have some kind of ';bleach'; in it to remove the color.
they both last till your hair grows out, since you will be using permanent color, that's the only way to go lighter, and highlights just keep getting blond. Dying is less harming to your hair rather than bleaching. You can do highlights using a dye, you don't necessarily need to use bleach.
well they both last about the same amount cause your hair does grow out. but highlights are only parts of your hair and dyeing would be your whole head of hair. so i say small high lights. its easier to hide when they grow out and you dont have to constantly tough up your roots.

Has any one ever been to a Aveda hair salon or a salon that does a good job highlighting hair?

If so what salon. Is Aveda a good salon? Cause i wanna get my hair highlighted and dont know what salon to go to. I live in OC regionHas any one ever been to a Aveda hair salon or a salon that does a good job highlighting hair?

Highlighting hair blond with box kit?

I want to add some highlights to my hair. I have dishwater blond hair at shoulder length. I don't want crazy big chucks of blond, just a lot of small pieces. And I want to use a box kit, but there are so many different kinds of applicators that I don't know which to choose. I've seen the caps you were and pull strands through, mini brushes, little flat iron looking applicators... Anyone know a brand or kind of kit that would work best? And please don't respond with ';go to a salon'; - I am aware of that option and choose not to.Highlighting hair blond with box kit?
the best one I have had experience with is the comb on highlights. they went right to my root and looked great when i was finished!

the worst one i have had experience with is the caps. if you're not careful you can tear out the inner lining of the cap and it can cause it to smear around your roots, looking horrible. (yes, it happened to me)

the best thing about highlights is if they don't work, you can easily cover them up with all over hair dye!

obviously, your best end result is a salon, but I'm like you and never wanted to pay for it...so just be smart, follow the directions, and make sure you leave the bleach on long enough to turn it blonde, but not too long to damage your hair

Good Luck!Highlighting hair blond with box kit?
I went to school for cosmetology and have my license. I want to first say that box color really isnt that great for your hair. It would be much better for you to go to a salon to have it done. Plus, with the box highlighting kit, theres a higher chance of messing it up when you do it yourself. I have not used these highlighting kits myself, have used them on a friend though, and it really didnt turn out well. Good luck.

Highlighting hair blonde and putting red streaks in, which do I do first?

the girl at Sally's told me to put the red in first, but im afraid the bleach would make it pink!

That's a tough one, since you're using a technique that I wouldn't suggest using. I'd do them all at the same time, using foils and not any cap. If you do red first, some you accidentally pull through the cap when you want to bleach it, some of the red will be pulled through and become pink. If you do it the other way around, you'll be pulling some previously bleached hair through a cap and adding a permanent color to it. Okay, you can do that. If you can't get someone in the know to assist you doing it all simultaneously with foils, I would do the bleach first, THEN the red, your'e right. Cause red over bleach won't end the world if you accidentally pull some bleached hair through the cap. But if you pull red hair thru the cap to bleach, you're also going to have some pink streaks mixed in!

Bleach first.Highlighting hair blonde and putting red streaks in, which do I do first?
If you want the red to be really red i would bleach your hair first. Thats what most hair salons do before they put a funky color in. It just makes more sense

  • Natural ways of highlighting hair?

I have dyed my hair blonde for years, but have finally grown it out because I'm concerned about all the nasty chemicals they put in hair dyes. However...I'd still like to lighten my dark blonde hair. Anyone had any success using natural ingredients?Natural ways of highlighting hair?
The only way to naturally bleach your hair is to be in the sun. The sun lightens you hair and brings out the color which results in natural highlights. I don't know if it will actually take dark hair and make it blonde, but it will lighthen it.Natural ways of highlighting hair?
Try lemon juice. Squeeze it on to hair. Gentle rub. Sit in the sun. Hey presto it works.
I've heard that putting lemon juice in the areas you want to lighten and then sitting in the sun helps. But as this years summer is a bit of a washout, good luck on finding the sunshine.
    Sunlight is good.

I heard lemon juice works but not tried it.
i like it how people say ';nasty chemicals'; when i bet they can't even state what those chemicals are and what reaction they have on the hair, lol! please learn some chemistry if you believe bleach and colours are ';nasty'; they only damage your hair if you use them incorrectly, oh and by the way lemon juice, sun-in and the actual sun are WORSE for your hair as lemon juice and sun-in are citric acid and ACID corrodes and dries hair BADLY, and the sun is frying out all the natural pigment in what will be a very lengthy process and you may not ever get past the orange stage whereas with bleach it takes one bleachout of (averagely) 45 mins and then only root touch-ups once every 4-6 weeks on the root area ONLY, you are not frequently submitting your hair to ';nasty chemicals'; like you are with the sun whereupon it would be near impossible to get JUST the roots!

Using highlighting kits at home to highlight hair?

Really want to get some highlights as I'm so bored of my hair, but I dont really want to pay the amount of money getting them done at a salon would be. So I'm thinking about trying one of those do it yourself kits, but i'm a little apprehensive. Would you recommend them? Especially for someone who's never tried dying hair on her own before??Using highlighting kits at home to highlight hair?
I've dyed my hair beofre various colours by myself.

I reccomend you find a friend who has dyed their hair before. Even better if they've done highlights. Look for reviews on the internet about which product is best. Read the insrtuctions at least twice before you start, follow them to the letter and do the strand/allergy/any other test they say to do.

Do this, you should be fine. But the friend really helps, it can be quite difficult without them, espcailly since you've never done it before.

    Good Luck xx

Highlighting hair - how long should i wait to process untill i go and wash it?

thanks! ( its the highlighting stuff out of the box )Highlighting hair - how long should i wait to process untill i go and wash it?
no matter what you should shampoo it out after an hour or so otherwise you risk having your hair break off, dry out, or fall out. but you definatley need to check with the directions on the box as a guide.Highlighting hair - how long should i wait to process untill i go and wash it?
Keep checking on it every 5 minutes or so until you get the colour you're happy with. The guidelines are just there as a rough guide.
Any time color is applied to the hair, it should NOT be shampooed for 48 hours!!!! That's how long it takes for the cuticle layer (outer layer) of the hair to close. If you shampoo it before the 48 hours is up, you could wash some of the color out. If you are going to get your hair permed, wait a good two weeks before doing so.
    read the directions

    How long after highlighting hair?

I highlighted my hair today - however I want to change the colour completely now. Should I wait before recolouring my hair? If so how long??

And if I do colour again today what can go wrong if anything??How long after highlighting hair?
It depends on the integrity of your hair. If you are really damaged to start with, you may wanna wait and do a few conditioning treatments in the meantime. Also, depending on how light your hair is now, and what color you want to go, the color might not hold for long. After pulling all the tone out (that's what you do when you go lighter), you'd need to get your hair ';filled'; by a stylist (add the natural pigments that hair has back in), before you color it again. How long after highlighting hair?
go for it now but when you color yourself use a filler so the color comes out all one color

    good luck~!
YES! you have to wait at least 2 weeks before doing anything else to it. You can colour it again if you want to, but the results (the shade you're looking for) might not be the expected, plus you risk totally drying your hair.
The most that could go wrong is that your hair could get a little fried. I would wait a month or so (if only to see if you like the color or see other people's reactions, and just precautionary so you don't fry it) and then if you do decide to change it, do it then.
I your hair color is going to be dyed a darker color just wait about 42 hours. If it is going lighter you need to wait a couple of weeks or else you could end up with a color you didn't mean for. Every hair color company should have a 1-800 number for you to call for their suggestions as to how long you should wait. But I have waited about 24 hours before redying my hair(Darker) and it turned out fine. Make sure you have washed you hair atleast twice or so before recoloring to make sure to get the majority of the dye out.

Highlighting hair naturally in the sun?

So I am vacationing right now... It is super nice out and I really would like to lighten my hair. No, I am not talking going to the salon. How do I bring out my highlights in my hair easily with the sun? I have heard lemon juice works, but how do you do that exactly? And any other ideas for lightening my light brown hair?

Lemon 'works' I guess.......I tried it one summer to bring out the highlights in my dark brown hair and just got brassy-orangey color. Not cute.

I read in Cosmo that combing vodka through your hair works good though.
Try the line Brilliant Brunette (or whatever hair color you r!) they have a great selection for different types of brunttetes, reds, and blondes! I have uses it and it works amazing, it really brings out your natural highlights without the damaging effects of the sun. They also have a new line that adds a hint of color to your hair for a more glowing look (it works really good 2!) HOPES THIS HELPS!!!!!
Just staying out in the sun in general works. But you can spray a mixture of lemon juice and water in your hair, and then stay in the sun..But lemon can dry your hair,so use a good conditioner when you wash your hair later.

or do you HAVE to use the foil method?

Is dying or highlighting hair harmful for african americans?

yes ur hair will breakIs dying or highlighting hair harmful for african americans?
No hun, your hair will not break out if you follow the directions on the package. I have blond high-lites and have had them for about a year, and my hair hasn't broken off. Just always use conditioner, moisterizers, and leave in conditioner after you wash your hair to keep it from drying out.

dont think so Why not ask a hairdresser??
well if your hair is healthy it should be okay. i got my hairl dyed 2 times this month, and my hair is not healthy but my hair did not break off or fall out.
It's not harmful to your body or anything. But since you relax your hair, your hair is already damaged from that process period. Our coarse hair is already the most fragile hair type there is, and then when it's relaxed it becomes even more fragile, then think about putting more chemicals on top of that in order to dye it.

With that said, I once tried to dye my hair, which was shoulder length, and it eventually broke off because my hair is already pretty dry and I didn't take care of it like I should. With that said I know people who's hair broke off from dying it because it just became too dry and brittle. But I also have a couple of friends who dye their hair a lot, they also have relaxers and their hair doesn't fall out at all. One of my friends highlights or bleaches her hair at least once a month and nothing happens at all to her.

So I think it depends on the person. If you do dye it, I suggest you got to a stylist to get it done, and ask them do they think your hair would be healthy enough to take it. If they say yeah go for it, but keep those ends trimmed, and make sure you condition, condition, condition. And keep your hair well-oiled. That should work for you, plus since I assume you have a really short cut, it's probably not going to hurt, because you probably keep your hair trimmed a lot anyway.
Nope. All hair dyes do dry your hair a little, but hardly. Just make sure you go to a PROFESSIONAL hair dresser, never use box dye...it has harsh chemicals in it. And also use some good conditioning treatments to keep your hair healthy and shiny!
i guess if your hair is short then do it. but mom is right, it will break ur hair. i am aa also and i have beautiful long and healthy hair and mine is dark/reddish brown. i have wanted hightlights for ever, but my stylist wont do it. again if short and u dont intend on growing it out, go for it. u only live once. besides u wanna look cute.
Hair highlighting and hair straightening are not good for your hair. But that doesn't mean you have to avoid it totally. If you do a hair highlighting, make sure you pamper your hair and protect it real well. Thorough conditioning can protect the hair and make it smooth and shiny all day long. Oil massaging your hair once a week and shampoo/ conditioning would help to revitalise your hair. All the best!!!

Hair stylist not highlighting hair to the roots?

I have been using foil highlights on my hair for 9 years. I recently moved and for the past 6 months my hair stylist has left at least 1/2 inch to almost an inch of my roots showing when I come in for foil highlights. Often times I feel like I need to be touched up the day after. I do not understand why she would do this considering I have never had this problem with other stylists. Also, I have noticed more of a visible line and it looks so tacky. I have been going in every 4-5 weeks and by then my hair looks horrible. In the past, I could wait at least 7 to 8 weeks. I want to believe that there is some reason out there for this, but I am afraid she is doing this so that I will come in more frequently. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Hair stylist not highlighting hair to the roots?
Well the reason for the lack of highlighting to the scalp may just be that she is not comfortable highlighting and thinks she may bleed onto your scalp ( when you get too close and make straight lines). The visible line could be from her taking too thick of a section or a straight ( called slicing) section instead of weaving a fine section. Or from her not blending to color up instead applying to thick where she starts. Have you told her your concerns? If you have and she has not been able to fix them, move on to a new stylist. We all want people to be happy with their hair and you want to be happy as well. So sometimes it is best if clients make sure to find their match. I hope this helped you some. I have been doing hair for 7 years.Hair stylist not highlighting hair to the roots?
Im a hairdresser and the only reason she is doing this, is because she doesnt know how to foil hair..You have to go to the root, and she is probably afraid her bleach is going to spill out..When doing foils, you cant load up on bleach because when it goes under the dyer it expands and will cause leakage and cause unwanted blotches..Consistency in mixing is the key, and application without loads of product..Make sure, the next time to find someone who is experienced, and goes to the root..Retouches if done right, need to be retouched about every 6 to 8 weeks...The foils should look neatly folded, and flat when all done..If its bunched up, then the stylists, hasnt had much experience...Go to someone who has, and dont waste your money, on the person who is doing your hair now.
She is probably concerned about something called ';bleed through';. Chemicals like what she is using on your hair to lighten it, swell when they warm up. The closer they get to your scalp, the warmer they get and more swelling can occur. Some of the more inexperienced stylists will end up giving their clients ';leopard spots'; on their hair if the lightening product swells and bleeds through the top of the foil, touching the rest of the hair.

You said that you moved...are you making the drive to the same stylist you had before you moved? If so, I have no explanation as to why she's doing this. If you changed stylists, I would guess you just happened upon someone who is less experienced and concerned about bleed through. It may be time to shop around for a new stylist.

How are hair toners or overlays used when highlighting hair?

I'm going to highlight my moms hair tomorrow with this at-home highlighting kit I bought from Walgreens. I usually use the foil technique when I highlight her hair. It turned out really good in the past, but I'm looking for something different! She has dark brown hair and the highlights are usually a dark copper color. First, I dye her hair medium brown because she has a lot of gray. Then, I highlight sections of her hair. I've read that those bleached sections are just raw hair without pigment. How can I use a toner or overlay to add a different color to the bleached sections of the hair? Are the toners applied all over or just in those sections? Help! How are hair toners or overlays used when highlighting hair?
when hair is lightend with bleach, you're removing pigment. the hair goes through different stages of lightening (starting from red through orange and finally yellow, if it gets there). when your moms highlights turn a dark copper color, its because it doesn't lift passed the orange stage of the lightening process. if you want blonder highlights, you have to either leave the bleach on longer, or use a higher volume of developer (which is more damaging). either way, a toner will help make the highlights a prettier color.

a toner is just a color with a small amount of pigment. it's not meant to really change the color, just neutralize or intesify the pigment thats left in the highlights. if your left with orange highlights, and you want to make them less orange, you need to use an ash-based toner. an easier way to think about it is a basic color wheel from art class in highschool. orange and blue are across from each other on the color wheel, so the blue in the ash color will neutralize the orange. if you kind of like the orange, and dont want to completely cover it, but just tone it down a little bit, go for a neutral toner.

there is a reason why you need a license to do hair. color theory is difficult to understand if you've never been taught, and i would recommend either going to a salon, or asking someone at your local beauty school or supply house for their opinion.

when applying the toner, you can apply it over the whole head. it wont affect the colored hair, it would only tone the bleached sections. because toner has so little pigment compared to regular color, there isn't enough pigment to change the color of darker hair. its basically going to ';stain'; the bleached hair because its lighter, and the cuticle has been blasted open from the lightener.

i hope i helped a little. i know this sounds confusing, but its hard to explain to someone who knows nothing about color. How are hair toners or overlays used when highlighting hair?
A toner is applied only to the bleached sections. If some gets onto the med. brown color don't worry because you will most likely be using a lighter color, so it won't lighten the brown. Use a brush to apply, or smear it on the highlights and rub it through with fingers while wearing gloves. By the way, permanent color is not usually used to tone, we use semi or demi permanents because they're gentler on bleached hair. If you're wanting to tone down the coppery color, use a cool color with an ash or a violet base. Toners are only left in a few minutes, just until you notice the color is changing; if you leave it too long, sometimes the color darkens too much and won't be a highlight anymore! Good luck!
Toners are just hair color, so it depends on what level you bring her highlighted color to, but if it's a light shade of blonde, you can use whatever color you would like. The highlighted sections will tone to that shade. When you apply it, it's usually a lighter shade for toning. It

is safe to just apply it all over. The hair you have colored darker will not be affected. Just remember the Golden Rule about hair color, COLOR WILL NOT LIFT COLOR, so if you choose a toner or glaze too dark, you will have to start all over.

Question about highlighting hair at home?

So i want to put some purple streaks in my hair. I was thinking about using Manic Panic.

However, you need to use the Flashlighting kit, and if i want to just do highlights i imagine it might be kinda hard to do just streaks.

Anyone ever done this kind of thing and have any tips?Question about highlighting hair at home?
It's not hard at all, Foils Foils Foils! That's your answer!

(Look at my hair, I'm your perfect example!)

Here is a video to help you on application:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t34Xp2aV_鈥?/a>

It shows you the way to foil hair, but I just threw it in as an idea.

In order to get your hair purple, you have to pre-lighten it to a pale blonde (Won't be that hard since your hair is already light), the reason for this is because if it's not light enough, you will end up with more of a reddish violet and not purple.

I use these three Manic Panic's on my hair:

Purple in the back, pink in the middle and white towards the front.

I would suggest for you to foil the hair when adding the Manic Panic too, that's to prevent it from going on the rest of your hair, that's what I do.

Good luck, have fun, go wild and send pictures!Question about highlighting hair at home?
Use foils like they do in salons... I'm pretty sure you can find a tutorial or something online [youtube maybe?]. I do hair... and I do my own high lights (I do peak-a-boo high lights so they aren't so *there*... where it's high lights here and there underneath for pops of color throughout)

Using foils will help keep things separated so you don't have a hot mess of color all over your head. Have a friend help you out. Extra hands are always good. :)

You don't have to lighten the hair prior to putting the purple on either... unless you want the bold color. If you just want a slight wash of color, you can just apply it directly to the hair and get a neat purple tint.

    Good luck :)
    ill send u my card.

Is there an alternate to bleach when highlighting hair?

Yes, but it depends on what your hair color is currently, and if it already has color on it. If you have colored your hair with a dark color, or any color besides blond, you can only use bleach to lighten it. Color doesn't lift color. If your hair is not colored dark or at all, you can use a high lift color instead of bleach. Honestly, though, bleach is the way to go. It's faster, easier to control lift wise, and so easy to tone down in case of brassiness, whereas high lift color is harder to tone.Is there an alternate to bleach when highlighting hair?

Does highlighting hair or dyeing it be really harmful to hair?

what are the affects? i really wanna highlight my hair a light brown[ i have dark brown hair]. but i'm not 2 sure about what the damaging affects are. and also, what are good colors for someone with medium-dark skin tones?Does highlighting hair or dyeing it be really harmful to hair?

    ur hair starts falling

and u wil be bald when ur 80

    :
    |Honestly if you dye your hair right, it can make your hair feel better. I dye mine about once a month at the most and it's fine. I have a friend that dyed+bleached her hair atleast once every other week for about a month and a half and her hair is dead now and rejects any color. A bunch of her hair fell out too. As for colors (if you aren't getting it done professionally). Walk down the aisles and see what you like! If you have a cooler hair tone, get a lighter, but cooler brown. Warmer, get a warm brown... etc. Have fun!
i dont know you but you tried to add me to your contacts.

first of all you say on your profile that you are 15 yrs old. Then you turn around and say that you are currently in the 8th grade, you are a straight A student and you want to graduate early.

Ok girl, you need to get your **** straight and stop lying about stupid stuff.

And also, its not good to be mistakened for mexican or Indian. I have been mistakened for the dark, african looking Indians (who are at the bottom of the caste) a couple of times because I too i'm habesha and its not good to be mistakened for Indian. I dont think anyone would be stupid enough to convince a mexican with an habesha. Mexis have straight hair and are mixed with indian and white. We look more black/arab but get over it. It doesnt matter. just get over yourself. No diff. between us, Nigerians, Sudanis, South africans, and any other African

    I'm out
Highlighting or dyeing your hair can be harmful if you let someone do that to your hair who isn't a professional. I know a lot of people especially females who like to color their own hair and do not take the necessary precautions. Ever see those women with more than one hair color. What I mean by this is that your hair before getting colored needs to be treated with a conditioner before and after so that the dye doesn't make your hair brittle. The same goes if you want to use a relaxer on your hair. You can only have it on for a short period of time before your head starts to itch and if you keep it in too long your hair starts to fall out from the roots.

As for what hair color is good why don't you try out highlights first and see how you like it before you change your entire hair color.
There are other ways to dye your hair. Try something natural. Maybe put some lemon juice or condidtioner on your hair and lay out in the sun. Another way is to use a spray called Sun In.

How much should I charge for highlighting hair/wig?

I do hair at home and someone has asked me to highlight thier wig. I don't know how much to charge because I know salons go overboard.

How much should I charge for styling/curling this womans hair/wig every week?

SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY PLEASE!!How much should I charge for highlighting hair/wig?
It depends on what kind of hair it is...long, sort, thick thin?

Without knowing that, i'd say it's reasonable to charge $50.00 for short hair and $70.00 for long. Also for a style you could charge $20-30 a week.

I just know that these prices are cheaper than regualr salons, if you want to cut her a break.

  • Highlighting hair if you have many moles on the head?

My daughter is 15 years old and wants to do full head highlights. I am a bit worried about it because she's got many moles on her head. They are a bit on a biggish side but not lumpy. Will it affect in any way the moles, and shall I let her do it?Highlighting hair if you have many moles on the head?

Is highlighting hair a bad idea and what are the side effects?

Well, I want to highlight my hair but my mom wont let me. She says that it will damage my hair. she said that it would dry it out and ruin it. I have ';black'; hair and it has natural highlights so its like a dark brownish/reddinsh color. I want to get like bronze colored higlights. Will it damage my hair and make it dry? Oh, and will it look bad after a couple months because the roots show or will they just fade a little after that? Oh and can they do semi-color highlights? Is highlighting hair a bad idea and what are the side effects?
Yes, getting highlights does dry out your hair. If you enjoy going swimming, the highlights will get damaged, as well as the hair that grows out of it. I know because my friend had beautiful, long, shiny hair. She went to get highlights, and after a few months, her hair looked like a bird's nest. The highlights damaged her hair, and faded it out. To restore the hair she had before, she had to shave 25 inches of hair (all of it). She shaved her hair because it stopped growing, and now, it only grows a little bit every month. It has been a year, and her hair only grew 3 inches. (An average human's hair grows 6-9 inches every year.) Now, her hair was very sensitive, and it was not used to so much change, so that is probably why it got ruined.) Many people have hair like that. If you get highlights, don't go so dramatically. Is highlighting hair a bad idea and what are the side effects?
yeah, it will look great but it will screw up your hair big time i say no your hairs fine!
yes it is a bad thing to do cuz your hair is prob so nice and your mom dose not want you to ruin it . i want ot highlight my hair to but my mother will not let me yeat i have ot be 17 before i can highlight my hair it will dry out your hair and i think it would look bad because of the roots
I have highlights and use BLEACH RUINS YOUR HAIR.... however there is a solution.... instead of putting ALL over highlight present to your mom ';face framing'; highlights which is just a few highlights here and there. It looks very nice. Also special salon hair shampoo/conditioner will get your hair back to be very soft and pretty even with the bleach damage. I use Bed Head or Paul Mitchell and a finishing spray which makes my hair very healthy. You usually wait about 2 months to put more bleach in. it doesn't look that bad unless you wait a LONG time in between bleaching.
my daughter has aurburn/brown hair and she did a carmel and it looks beautiful i have had mine highlited and it was fine. they can do what ever you would like and ask them what they think
it might it all depends on your type of hair. if its silky it probaly wont give a noticable effect. but if u already have damamaged hair like its frizzy i woodnt just to be on the safe side. it might cause your hair to be like a frizz ball!
i was worried about my hair getting damaged and dry but no my hair is extremely soft and shiny but u should know once u start highlighting ur hair u have 2 keep doing it because ur hair will grow and ur roots will start 2 show depending on how fast ur hair grows is how long it will be b4 ur roots show 4 me my hair grows real fast so after a month i had 2 highlight it again by the way dont go out to get it done just go and get a box and have ur mom do it 4 u my big sis and my mom did mine 4 me
highlights wont dry out all of your hair but it could dry out the spots that you have highlighted, to avoid this make sure you buy a shampoo and condition specially for color treated hair with extra moisture. highlights do grow out and then you either have to go get them redone or do an all over color to cover them up. I'm not sure what you mean by semi-color but if you mean multiple colors yes, if you mean semi permanent color yes also but only darker than your natural color
To highlight they have to use bleach, which is not healthy for the hair. I've dyed and bleached my hair like ten times a year for the last eight years, and my hair is not ruined. You can use products to reduce the damage. Invest in a good shampoo, conditioner and a protein mask. Also try not to use blowdryers and curling- and straighting-irons too much(That goes for anyone).

Bronze highlights will look great, they will not fade. But if you just get a few and not overall, you can go to the hairdresser and fill in the roots once a month. And anyway, the hair will eventually grow out, so go ahead, have fun :) Just remember to take care of it and see a colourist for a proffesional and safe result.
The peroxide they use to lighten hair dries your hair and makes it brittle. AND, if you have super thick hair, that will make it thicker and poofy.
yeah, it does cause dryness %26amp; damage. The only reason I do it is because I want to camouflage the gray. I wouldn't do it if my hair was like yours.
your mom is right it will make your hair alittle dry and it could possibly break off. the best thing to do is to leave it natural.

How long should you wait before re-highlighting hair?

I had my hair highlighted about 3 weeks ago but I want to go lighter. How long should I wait and what can I do to minimize damage? Once I get it lighter I will just retouch the roots but I just need some advice what to do now.How long should you wait before re-highlighting hair?
just wait a couple more weeks and go lighter, after that only touch up the roots. On damaging i can only advice a good shampoo %26amp; conditioner for damaged hair...How long should you wait before re-highlighting hair?
A week at least, just until the dye has settled.
you need to wait a good month still. your hair is going to be like hay if you do it to soon
    yeah, about 3 weeks-1month.
hairdresser say you should wait 6 weeks before re-colouring or re-highlighting your hair but I think that if its been 3 weeks your fine, I dyed my hair 3 times in one day to get it looking how I wanted it once and it didn't do any damage to it. Highlights aren't as bad as whole head colouring either so you'll be fine %26amp; it'll look great! good luck (:
wait untill your roots start showing
Until your roots grow so much that the highlights look weird.

I usually just do it when my highlights turn gold (I get red/ copper highlights) because I think all highlights turn gold after awhile. So if you didn't get gold highlights that's one way to tell.

Is it okay to go swimming a day after bleaching/highlighting hair?

I was hoping to bleach or highlight my hair tonight, but I am going swimming in a chlorine pool tomorrow. Is it okay to bleach or should I wait?Is it okay to go swimming a day after bleaching/highlighting hair?
wait... it might turn green :) lolIs it okay to go swimming a day after bleaching/highlighting hair?
As I am a licensed cosmetologist....NO..theres nothing wrong with going swimming after you highlight your hair. Over exposure to chlorine..such as swimming every day all summer...will probably turn it a shade of green. But every now and then is perfectly fine =) Just be sure to put a good conditioner in it afterwards. My favorite leave in is called Real Control Crema Care by Redken
it will be fine, just make sure you wet your hair or put conditioner in it right before you take a tip. filling your hair with water or conditioner first makes sure your hair isn't so porous so it won't absorb so much of the chlorine from the water. good luck!
Wait if you want good hair results hun!
if i were you i would wait because i got highlights before and it turned them green lol

Does lemon juice work at highlighting hair?

    Is this true?

If so, how long do you leave it on for and how strong is the effect, for example on light mousy brown hair, what would the colour ncome out as? Give links to pictures if you find any please.Does lemon juice work at highlighting hair?
only works if you can be out in the sun, and it will give you cardboard stiff hair so dont put it on unless your just sittin out your garden!

i think a better alternative tho is shampoo for blonde hair.

i have dark brown hair but wanted to lighten it to a mid brown/auburn so i bought some CHAMOMILE and LEMON shampoo from Boots for a few quid. and iv used it 3 times so far and its loads lighter!

so try that because its a lot easier and safer than using lemon juice! plus if ur in britain like me, we dont get much sun! lolDoes lemon juice work at highlighting hair?
lemon juice is used as a mild blecher , you'll have to apply it carefully , and since it's mild , youll have to leave it on for a while , to see distinctive results , but it does work . Also lemon juice is commonly used to lighten youe knees , and elbows , and that certainly works , hope you enjoy hightlighting your hair , it'll smell fab and vey citrus . Mind you the effects are only temporarily , so you should do it every other week to keep up the results , who needs hair dye when you have lemon ?
Lemon juice is a bit sticky, i used Sun in which i bought from my local chemist, it turned my mousy hair to a lovely blonde, but i did mine in the summer and spent a lot of time in the sun. If you do it now you may not get results as quickly as you would in the summer, also blow drying clean hair with sun in does work.

You can also touch up the roots by sraying on the sun in and a bottle does last quite a while.

What you do is wash and condition hair, and spray sun in on your damp hair then blow dry. Then go in the sun. Or spray on damp hair then go in the sun and allow the sun to dry your hair. For quicker results i used to do the first option.
Yeah it does work but you need a hell lot of lemon juice, and you need to be very careful about it

if you leave it one for ages such as 40 minutes itll go like this,

    http://www.visual-makeover.com/images/st鈥?/a>

but if you leave it on for abot 25 minutes, it will go more of a golden blonde, with darker and lighter bits.
I guess it really depends on how porous your hair is--meaning how well it absorbs the lemon juice. But i have really dark brown hair and i tried the lemon juice thing when i was like 7. All i did was pour the lemon juice over my head and sat in the sun for like 10-15min. It did work, subtly though. It's not going to give bleach blond highlights though.

    Good luck!
Yes it does work. For less of a sticky mess try Sun-In. You can get it at any drugstore or walmart (its usually stuck on the shelf near hair-coloring). It already has lemon juice in it and it comes in a spray bottle. Its no more than $5. You spray it on and either sit out in the sun or put the hair dryer to it (on high heat) and it makes your hair blonder. Or for highlights, put it on streaks through your hair.
Yea, it works for me. Some say it has dried their hair out, but I haven't had any problems. It has lightened my hair, but you'll probably have to sit out in the sun for a little while. I would make sure you condition your hair a lot just in case it does possibly dry your hair out.

Vinegar also lightens your hair a little bit and you don't have to sit in the sun.

    Hope I helped some.
You would be better off getting hi-lites froma supermarket with the cap they're really cheap and easy to do and also they don't damage your hair.

    heres a link i found,

    http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl鈥?/a>

It damages hair and also you have to sit out in the sun for a fair while.

    Hope this helps
Yes, it is really something you should try. all you need is about a third cup of it and while in the shower or whenever and it gives you highlights for about three days. My Mom told me that the next week you can do it again.

P.S-if you want your hair REALLY bright go for a cup.
it does work, but only slightly. Dont expect drastic changes.

I used to put a bit on when i went on holiday (you do know that lemon juice only works in the sun?)

you need to be sitting on the hot sunny beach for it to work! good luck
    ye it does

you put lemon juice in your hair and the sun makes it go blonde

if you have dark dark brown or black hair it can sometimes go ginger

use lemon juice and then if it goes gingers then dye it blonde
    totally true!

lemon juice is great, i'm also a mousey browny blonde, and it comes out great. stay in sunlight in the sun and it works like a charm. :D

i havent got any pictures thoughh :(
yes it really does work just put it in your hair and sit out in the sun for about one hour if you cant sit in the sun leave it in for 2 hours
The acid in lemon juice acts as a mild bleaching agent, and therefore will highlight (slightly) your hair.
Yes, but it also drys it out and damages it.

On your color, it would come out orange or bright yellow; probably not what you want.

How do stylists avoid brassy/orange tones when highlighting hair with a red base?

If you do it at home it just doesn't come out right...

I dyed my hair a dark brown that has red tones (it's supposed to) but my natural hair color is LIGHT LIGHT brownish blonde. There is a big difference between the colors. Well, I want to have some highlights put in to help blend it. How do stylists avoid brassiness? Can they? How do stylists avoid brassy/orange tones when highlighting hair with a red base?
God helps...How do stylists avoid brassy/orange tones when highlighting hair with a red base?
It all has to do with the color wheel. To avoid red/orange tones, you use a color(or highlighter) with an ashy base- a green or blue. Usually if you buy an at-home highlighting kit, it won't turn out right, because it's cheap and most likely won't work with your hair.

I suggest going to a salon and getting it done professionally. It will cost around $30-$50, depending on how long your hair is, how many you want, etc.

If you can't afford that, try going to a beauty school-you can make an appointment there and one of the student could do it for you. It's a lot cheaper, about $25.

If you STILL can't afford that, go to a beauty supply store, like Sally's, and ask whoever works there to help you get the right supplies, and you can do it at home. That'll only be about $10, tops. But unless you're experienced in highlighting it might not turn out great.

Anyways, good luck, I hope it works out :)
Yes they can. They use what is called toner. If there is any brassiness in the highlights they will apply the toner and get rid of it. I have done this several times and highlights always come out great. Don't worry!
They use the blue kind! (no lie)
your dumb so pathatic **** :)

What is the best method to highlighting hair at home?

    2. What tools and methods do I need to do to get the results that i need (especially since I'm highlighting it at home)?

    3. How do I maintain it?What is the best method to highlighting hair at home?
I wouldn't recommend using an at home kit that you would buy at the store. I got one over the weekend and thought it would be easy. Wrong! It turned out really bad. I have dark brown hair and it came out reddish orange. Now I'm trying to figure out how to fix it. I do know the cap has worked best for me from the salon. What is the best method to highlighting hair at home?
you need a professional for good results at home its a disaster
Have a friend help you and to get dimension and even natural hi lites the best idea is the old cap - and pull it through otherwise save up for hi/low lites at the salon!!

There are many products to choose from go with reading the back of the box. Read directions to obtain the look you desire.

Most hi lites last about 12 weeks and a touch up is required.
I used Feria Hightlighting Kit. It has all the tools you need in the box and I got great results. To maintain it, get some shampoo for highlighted hair like John Frieda or Pantene. I use the Frieda Sheer Blonde line and it really keeps my hair in healthy shape and brings out the highlights every time. I know he makes a formula for dark hair too. So does Pantene.

    Hope this helps!

How soon after highlighting hair can you recolor hair darker?

Recently had my hair highlighted. Regretting ever doing so..turned out way too light. I want to go to the store and buy a darker hair color to wash in. Is this safe to do? Or will it damage the hair? I miss my dark brown hair. How soon after highlighting hair can you recolor hair darker?
Its fine to color your hair now if you want. What youre going to want to do is find the color that you want but in a semipermanent shade so that your not adding ammonia to your hair which can be damaging but instead your depositing a color so its not harmful or stripping to your hair. How soon after highlighting hair can you recolor hair darker?
To be honest, it doesn't really matter. You do however need to be careful about what color you choose. Darkening your hair after it's been lightened can cause some issues. If your hair has been damaged in the lightening process, your color may not come up evenly. Also depending on the color you choose it may appear smokey or ashy when you have completed the color. Although darkening your hair doesn't appear to be complicated, it might be in your best interest to go to a salon. Keep in mind, over coloring can cause problems, but darkening is not as harsh as lightening your hair.
if it was me, i'd probably wait a week or so- some people would probably say a month, but iv known people to do it the day after and its been fine, i jus like to leave it a bit longer. just make sure you use a few good products on it to keep it in good condition. cn you answer mine please?

Whats the difference between highlighting hair and dying it?

I've never dyed or highlighted my hair in my life. How much damage would it do and whats the difference between the two?

I have really really dark brown hair[looks black] and if i were to highlgiht it, which colour should i do? I'm thinking a light brown but would it show up ?Whats the difference between highlighting hair and dying it?
hilighting is done to some of the hair and dying is done to all. You could get brown hilights all youd have to do is beach the parts you want hilighted then dye those browm. They are both equally damaging. Pretty much safe as long as your not doing it every week. hope this helps.Whats the difference between highlighting hair and dying it?
Well dying does much more damage. The difference between dyeing and highlighting is dyeing is the whole thing, highlighting is only strips. I think you should highlight it a bright, light colour. maybe blonde might look good since you're hair is nearly black.
it would most definitely show up.

trust me, i had dark dark brown, that was almost black, and now my hairs medium brown, and its a big difference.
as far as i know dying it would be colouring the whole hair..highlights would be getting something like this.

Does highlighting hair with lemon juice really work?

I have light brown hair with some natural blonde highlights (basically dirty blonde hair) but i want my hair to be a little lighter. Will lemon juice give my hair more highlights and how long does it need to stay on?Does highlighting hair with lemon juice really work?
Yes but you have to sit in the sun to get the full effect. I used to just put it in my hair, sit out in the sun until my hair dried. It took a few times to turn really blonde.Does highlighting hair with lemon juice really work?
Yes it works as a natural bleach however it is not strongly effective. You will need to put it in and then go sit out in the sun for about an hour or so. Do this a few days a week but be sure to wear sunscreen because you don't want to end up with skin cancer just so you can have slightly lighter hair.
It works, but i would not suggest it. My one teacher tried that when she was young, and she went from brown hair to orange! If you want to take that risk, go ahead. You should try it on one little spot in the back maybe to see if it works, and then apply to all the parts that you want lighter.
It worked for me when I ran out of Sun-In. But I still think Sun-In works better.

I want to highlight my hair. I currently have very dark brown hair, close to black. I would like some very subtle natural looking highlights that enrich my current hair colour. I was wondering what I should opt for, highlighting, lowlighting, and what shades I should consider.

    Thanks for your help,

Look at your hair in the sun. Choose a strand that is lighter and look at the tone. That would be a perfect, natural highlight color. You should ask for highlighting with color, not bleach. Placed in a natural patttern working with your haircut and growth patterns. Best of luck.Highlighting Hair?
My sister got lowlights last week and she has the same hair color as yours. I personally think it looks great on her. Try to go for one or two shades lighter than your hair color. Don't get gold highlights...I think they look horriable.
