Highlighting hair, I have an idea but idk if it will work..?

Well you know the highlighting kits that have that brush sort of thing.. Well I was wondering.. Would it be possiable to take like a wide tooth comb and dip the ends in hair dye and brush it threw your hair? And iff not well then with the actully brush type thing.. No! That would look terrible! You don't want to mess with bleach! Its permanent.
